This just in from Canyon News. The person killed in a crash on Interstate 5 in Pacoima on Dec 21 has been identified as former COC basketball player Donovan Chapman.

The crash was reported shortly after 4 am, when witnesses say a sedan, possibly traveling at a high rate of speed, collided with a large truck on the northbound Interstate 5 south of Branford Street and north of the 170 interchange.

Chapman, who played guard, appeared in 28 games for the Cougars, starting 12 and averaging nine points per game.

In a statement to KHTS, Eric Harnish, the college’s Vice President of Public Information, said, “The college community is deeply saddened by Donovan’s sudden and tragic passing. He was a valued member of the 2024-25 Cougar basketball team and leaves behind many friends on campus.”

“We were honored to remember him today with a moment of silence before the game, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends as they mourn his loss.”

Chapman was just 25 years old.
