Santa Clarita’s Neighborhood Clean Up aimed to enhance environmental sustainability. Community members volunteered in order to help keep the city clean.
“The overall goal is just to be aware of our surroundings and keep our community clean,” said Angelica Wasowicz, Project Technician for the City of Santa Clarita.
“It’s also April, which is Earth Day month and Arbor Day month, so it’s a day to just really take a look at our environment and our earth to keep it clean.”
Residents registered online to arrive at drop-off locations to receive items that encouraged them to pick up litter across the city, helping create a cleaner community.
“The neighborhood clean-up event is a project where community members can drive through and pick up clean-up supplies like bags, gloves and then information about Green Santa Clarita,” said Haley Lawton, Environmental Services Administrative Analyst for the City of Santa Clarita.
“The goal is for community members to go out into their neighborhoods, into bike trails, wherever they want in the community, where they can pick up trash, and then they can clean up and help make a difference in the community.”
Proper waste disposal makes a huge impact on our community. It not only beautifies our city but also reduces pollution.
“We recommend folks to…walk around through the paseos or through local parks, just pick up trash,” said Wasowicz.
“I know it’s hard to pick up other people’s trash, but at the end of the day, this is all our community, so it helps everybody to keep our neighborhoods clean.”
As a Clean California Community, the city of Santa Clarita works hard to actively prevent litter and to raise awareness about environmental harm.
“You’re helping our community stay clean, Santa Clarita stay clean, but you’re also helping the world stay clean, and everybody doing their part can make such a big difference,” said Lawton.
Cleaning the earth doesn’t need to happen just one day; it can be done every single day to help create a cleaner SCV.
