Beyond the walk, balloons, and confetti, the community came together to raise awareness for the National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The Child and Family Center held its annual Purple Walk to raise funds to help domestic violence survivors.
“This program helps save lives every single day,” said Nikki Buckstead, the President and CEO of the Child and Family Center.
“Our donors and our supporters and all the sponsors of the Purple Walk, they’re helping to save lives. And I hope that they really understand how important and incredible that is,” said Buckstead.
According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, an average of 24 people per minute are victims of domestic violence – that’s about 12 million per year.
“Anyone needing to flee a dangerous or violent environment can call us on our 24-hour hotline,” said Buckstead.“That hotline will get you in contact with someone who can help, create a safety plan for you.”
“They’re going to get a full array of services offered to them depending on their needs,” said Felicia Skaggs, Program Director for the Domestic Violence Program.
“You’re not alone in this. There are many people out there struggling with this, so if it’s not you, if you know someone, encourage them to get help,” said Skaggs.
