College of the Canyons’ Associated Student Government will be holding a Halloween-themed online clay modeling session on Friday, in which participants can get creative while listening to a Harry Potter audiobook.
While many people will be staying indoors because of COVID-19 safety concerns, ASG decided that they wanted to make being home as fun and creative as possible by having participants create their own clay models together.
“Initially we were going to hand out pumpkins for students to pick up and take home,” said Kayla May Jaramillo, the ASG Social Student Involvement Coordinator. “We went with the clay instead because we felt that would be more fun for everybody.”
The two pounds of modeling clay will be provided for free by the organizers, and those who are interested in joining the event can pick up the clay in either of the two COC campuses by filling out a form with a name, car color, and who will be picking up the order.
“I think this event is a good distraction for Halloween,” said Anthony Blotti, a student attending COC who showed interest in joining the event. “Keeps your mind busy in a positive and creative way.”
The Zoom broadcast will last for two hours, and participants can show their progress of their model each time a chapter of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone audiobook ends.
“We’d love to do another event like this in the future,” said Jaramillo. “We would be taking the necessary safety precautions, depending on what happens in the future.”
