Many will remember this special day of the year. The holiday season
officially kicked off in Old Town Newhall on November 18. The annual Light Up Main
Street welcomed families to a local winter wonderland experience.
“I wanted to do something with my kids. I’m a single mom. As you can see, it’s just me and them. I haven’t had it since I was a kid and my kids have never really experienced we normally have to drive far,” said a local attendee. “This was only like 10 minutes away from our house having something like this. This means a lot.”
Folks gathered in front of the Newhall Library for the big countdown of the
23-foot Christmas tree lighting and to see Main Street charge to life in a festive atmosphere. If you remember, this event started 8 years ago outside of Henry Mayo Hospital where only about 200 folks showed up. But as the event has grown so has the need for more room…so now with 5000 people enjoying the annual tradition, Main Street is the perfect fit.
“It was wonderful, it was amazing. There was snow, there were the lights, there was
thousands of people, there was a pop-up bar, there was retailers it was so much fun!” Said another visitor.
Newhall has held this tradition for more than a decade. With sponsors, vendors,
and performers coming together to make this yearly event possible. However, this isn’t just a tree light-up, it’s about coming together as a community and getting ready for the holiday season.
“It literally is family. Just seeing everyone’s so happy. You know, we went through this pandemic where we were all separated,” said another guest. “And now just to see everyone’s so happy and I feel happy to be able to take my kids out. It’s it means a lot.”
“It’s very inclusive and everybody gets to come out. And this is a wonderful time to do it.” Said an attendee.
“It’s my favorite part of the community that we do a lot of things here,” said Noemy Gil.
