Art has the ability to break barriers; it can be beautiful as well as
provoking, it can be viewed by anyone, heard by anyone, and express any
language.

For artist Cindy Leung, her sculptures on display at College of the Canyons’ newly opened art gallery were a way to signify moments in her life as well as a sense of acceptance.

“Represent stages in my personal life,” said Leung. “A lot of them
are about being playful. And seeking the idea of belonging.”

Art can be made of many unique pieces. These rare segments can be viewed as a metaphor for life. Some will see this piece as a board with random objects, but for Leung, this piece of art expresses more about her emotions and the loss of people than words ever could.

“So I use a lot of different materials porcelain, silk,….there’s black sand in the work and there’s glass, said Leung.

“Having all this random material together, I am trying to talk about how certain things come together to create a sense of belonging.”
