A local wall in Santa Clarita, located near the Iron Horse Trail Bridge and the Promenade Town Center Apartments, has become the center of attention due to a Halloween-themed graffiti war between graffiti artist Sleprock and Santa Clarita’s very own graffiti removal task force.
The wall has been hit not once, twice, or even three times but on four occasions.
The widespread popularity of Sleprock and their graffiti is thanks to Instagram accounts like What’s up SCV, which posted the first widespread image on October 6th featuring a large portrait of the horror Icon Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King’s “IT.”
Public reception to the wall and its recent graffiti has been mixed. Many Santa Clarita Valley residents are for it, stating that it’s tasteful and fits the Halloween season well, while others condemn the artist for vandalizing public property.
“We should discourage graffiti and unsanctioned art,” said Tracy Sullivan, the Community Preservation Manager for the City of Santa Clarita.
“It invites crime in our community, and that’s something that we want to fight against,” said Sullivan.
“People aren’t going to want to come to the city of Santa Clarita if it’s…tainted with a ton of graffiti around it,” added Sullivan.
With the Halloween Season right about to end and the smell of fresh paint starting to fade away, one can only wonder what’s next for the most popular wall in Santa Clarita.
