The Local Farmers Market, located in Santa Clarita, is a place where farmers who grow their own goods can come and sell their produce every Saturday.

“At the farmers market, all and everything is on the farmers,” said Larry McClements, Market Manager of The Old Town Newhall Farmers Market. “They bring the goods and I bring the people.”

Whatever is sold there at the market is most likely grown by the person selling it.

“So you could ask the farmer directly any questions you might have,” McClements said.

The Old Town Newhall Farmers Market was brought to Santa Clarita in 2015. It’s known for its uniqueness and freshness, with different varieties of fruits, veggies, bread and more. At the market, you’ll be able to find produce that is grown for quality.

Produce sold at a farmers market is usually grown organically and is fresh.

“I have learned what makes our farm direct produce so special is when I have gone to the supermarket, what they carry is so different in quality,” Brandon McClements, Assistant Manager, said. “Everything we have is so fresh. Nothing else comes close.”

The Old Town Newhall Farmers Market is filled with different varieties of grapes, peaches, plums and more.

There are many differences at Farmers Market compared to supermarkets.

Sometimes, the pricing is more expensive at farmers markets. At the Old Town Newhall Farmers Market, the farmers set their own prices.

“Supermarkets are making money off this,” McClements said. “But these farmers are people who aren’t living in the upper class. They’re just selling and trying to make a living.”

The Old Town Newhall Farmers Market also is not only limited to just farm-grown goods. It’s open to artisans that sell bread and much more as well as fresh seafood.

Having many different varieties of produce is not the only thing that makes the Old Town Newhall Farmers Market special. It’s about the hard work of the farmers that take their time growing crops and feeding people.

“Farmers markets have been the primary place we grocery shop for years,” Operations Manager Stephanie, who asked her last name be withheld, said. “I’m thrilled to now be a part of bringing this to our city.”

The Old Town Newhall Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Old Town Newhall Library parking lot at 24500 Main Street, Santa Clarita.
