When thinking about sports, individuals usually tend to think of the multiple types offered in high schools across the globe, or the professional teams that go head to head against one another in worldwide events like The Olympics. This is where the Prime Time Sports League in Santa Clarita brings something new to the plate for residents to enjoy.

Prime Time Sports League is a privately owned and run, adults only sports league that offers SCV residents a chance at getting back out onto the field. The league offers a choice of two different sports for any adult resident to sign up and join. One of the most popular sports that is offered from the league is their multiple tiered flag football games.
Prime Time Sports League is actually currently hosting their winter flag football season that began February 25th of this year, allowing residents an opportunity to get outside and active before the summer heat rolls in. To join one of the league’s flag football teams, members are only required to pay a $90 sign up fee and select a difficulty tier based on their skill level. The tiers range from the bronze division which is the lowest level of difficulty all the way to the platinum division which is for the players that could practically almost go pro.

The $90 fee gives players the ability, “to sign up for the whole season, giving them 8 games to play and playoffs as well if their team makes it” (Carson Barber) The sign up fee also pays for the reserved field space, the team uniforms, and the flags that the players wear in game.
The games are hosted every Sunday at one of two local parks here in SCV, Heritage Park or Central Park which is located right across from Saugus High School. On Sunday April 21st, in the bronze division two teams went head to head, The Huge Saks versus The Promising Young Women at Heritage Park.

The Huge Saks is a team made up of 7 men and 2 women who all happen to know each other from working at the local Santa Clarita restaurant, Lazy Dog. Their team color is a light blue making them stand out against the dark green of the field when going up against their opponents.
I had a chance to meet up with their team captain Riley Barber, and he had a lot to say before their game against the predominantly female team The Promising Young Women. “I think if we all communicate clearly and really come together as a team, we have a chance at really winning this” he exclaimed while boasting about his team.
The game ended with The Promising Young Women taking the win just moments before the timer ran out with an interception. After the game members of both teams shared some high fives, also agreeing on why other residents should join the league.
They all sang, “come on out and have some fun” (Prime Time Sports League members) when trying to persuade new residents to join the sports league. Overall every member of the numerous teams seemed to be enjoying their time outside on the field and with the league.
Although the flag football winter session is slowly coming to an end with playoffs beginning in two weeks, the league owner encourages the adult residents of the Santa Clarita Valley to come out and sign up to play next year during the next winter session.
