On Thursday, March 29th, College of the Canyons held its annual scholarship foundation, giving out scholarships to hardworking students. COC holds this event to give opportunities to many people, making it an easier path to a college education for many.
“So, every year we host a scholarship reception for every student who has received a scholarship from the foundation,” said Shawna Mann, Executive Director of the College of the Canyons Foundation.
“We invite the students, the families as well as the donors who funded the scholarships, in the hopes they get to meet each other, chat, get to know each other a bit better,” said Mann.
But what does the event mean to the staff?
“I love seeing all of the students come together and celebrate the accomplishment of winning a scholarship,” said Mann
“Then being able to connect them with the person, family, or foundation that provided those funds to them. It has resulted in some very meaningful stories,” said Mann.
College of the Canyons holds the scholarship foundation, which annually awards thousands of dollars worth of scholarships to hundreds of students here at the University Center.
After getting their dinner, the attendees listen to the speakers as they give their thanks and props to the foundation, celebrating another successful celebration.
