Students seeking a little extra help are faced with a conundrum.

Yes, they can find a tutor but private tutoring can be costly. The question then arises: where do they turn to?

Perhaps a student just can’t seem to figure out an equation, or maybe they need an essay revised—whatever the issue, tutors at The Learning Center can help students with virtually any academic-induced woe. And the best part is, they’re free.

“Tutoring, more often than not, is something that you have to pay for,” Matthew Lemus, a lead tutor at TLC states. “Either you get a private tutor or you go to a facility that offers tutoring that you pay for. But if you’re a student of COC, all you need is your student ID and you get free tutoring here whenever we’re open.”

“They’ve helped me a lot and helped my grades a lot and I know they can help others as well,” Diego Castaneda, a COC student and frequent TLC visitor, said, recommending the lab to fellow students.

And there’s nothing you can’t get help for at the TLC.

“We have tutoring for most— basically every—major that’s offered on campus,” Lemus explained. “Math, English, sciences. We also have computer tutoring and specialty subjects for things under those fields,”

This summer, the Valencia campus TLC is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Canyon Country TLC is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. every Monday till Thursday. Both campuses are closed on weekends for summer session but will resume normal operating hours for the fall.
